About
Happy Birding

Hey everyone, I am James the creator of Happy Birding!

I am a 19-year-old living in Honolulu, Hawaii, I have been an avid birder since my grandpa first took me out. I am originally from the South of England, and I can remember the feeling of seeing my first Nightingale! It was an amazing feeling and I have been searching for more and more birds to add to my life list every day I can get out there.

I started this blog to learn more about birding and have a space to share my insights, and get experienced ornithologists to help me along my journey to share the beautiful world of birding with people all over. I especially am passionate about sharing the world of bird watching with young people as it is something we need to teach forward to help preserve our amazing flying and non flying 🙂 friends!

More about me!

I am originally from England but moved to Colorado when I was younger. I traveled and still travel a lot to England to visit with Family. This has been a blessing for my bird-watching I am able to discover different species that are not as common or in America at all! After graduating high school I decided to move to San Diego, this was to pursue work but I discovered surfing and this is when I first decided to share my happy mantra about birding and create this blog, Happy Birding!

I am lucky to be very nomadic with my work, so I am able to travel and move just about anywhere! I decided to take advantage of my amazing situation and moved to Hawaii! Between hiking and discovering new species in the tropical forest and surfing, it has been an amazing experience!

Why Happy Birding

Birding has always been my escape, it is the best medicine I have found for stress and anything else that may come up. Leaving my phone and the world behind and grabbing my journal and a pair of binoculars I step out of reality for a bit and enjoy listening to chirps, fluttering of wings, and nature!

Happy Birding comes from how I feel when I am birding, it isn’t very deep, but bird watching can be an amazing way to be more centered and appreciate the little or big…things! So get out there and Happy Birding!
